A 15-year-old boy will appear in Tauranga's Youth Court next week after an alleged serious assault where a man was cut on the ear.

The teenager has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm following an altercation in Links Avenue, Mount Maunganui about 7pm on Sunday.

A man's ear was cut in an assault in Links Avenue.

Detective Sergeant Darryl Brazier says a 27-year-old man has been taken to Tauranga Hospital with a laceration to his ear after being involved in a fight with another person.

Police attended and with the help of the public were able to locate the alleged attacker.

Tauranga Police Senior Sergeant Glenn Saunders says the 15-year-old has been interviewed by police and will appear in the Youth Court next Monday.
