Maketu Seafood festival a hit

Seafood, music and other entertainment is all on offer at the Maketu Rotary Kaimoana Festival.

The annual fundraising event for the Maketu community had a last minute change of venue and is now being held at the Te Puke A&P Showgrounds today.

Maketu Rotary president Maureen Burgess says the day has been absolutely fabulous. It's an amazing day.

'People are quite happy that this is a suitable venue. It's actually quite close to the state highway, easy to find and it was used a week ago for the A&P Show, so it's all ready to go.

'There is plenty of room for everyone. There were a few little drops of rain at the beginning but that didn't effect anything. There is a good crowd, happy vendors and happy punters.”

The festival has attracted around 40 vendors overall including food stalls and arts and crafts.

There are at least 20 food stalls.

Maureen expects to have about 1000 or more people come through the festival before they shut up shop at 6pm.

'We have a full six hours of entertainment on the stage.

'Te Aroha Seafoods look to be really popular. Mussels and whitebait are also popular food items. Maketu School have oyster shots and melons full of ice cream.”

There is a good variety of music for people, with Brendan Dugan bringing the country influence.

Was a great day , but you should report the reason why it had to be moved, due to a tangi being held on the marae.
